The High-Quality Development of the Photovoltaic Industry

2024-04-20

On March 21, the "PAT2024 Love Photovoltaics for a Lifetime" advanced technology seminar was held in Hefei. With the theme of "Leading the trend and foreseeing the future", this meeting deeply exchanged ideas about the development trends of industrial upgrading and the next generation of photovoltaic energy storage technology, and discussed how to promote the construction of photovoltaic collaborative installation models under the conditions of the rapid decline in photovoltaic and electrochemical storage costs and the initial basis for collaborative development. By 2023, under the rapid growth of domestic and foreign markets, China's photovoltaic industry continues to maintain a rapid development momentum and has achieved remarkable results. In the manufacturing end, the domestic photovoltaic manufacturing industry's output (excluding inverters) exceeded 1.75 trillion yuan in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 17.1%. The production of the four main industrial chain links of polycrystalline silicon, silicon wafers, cells, and modules has reached new highs based on the large base of 2022, and the year-on-year growth rates have all exceeded 60%. In terms of exports, the quantity of photovoltaic products exported has reached a new high, and the distribution of export regions has become more diversified.

While achieving the above results, we also see that the current industry development is facing severe challenges. Firstly, the photovoltaic consumption problem is serious. Secondly, photovoltaic power participating in market-oriented transactions has become a trend. The development and income models of photovoltaic are facing great changes. Thirdly, irrational investment and expansion phenomena occur frequently. Fourthly, old problems such as mandatory investment matching, mandatory energy storage ratio, and difficulties in land use still plague industry development. In addition, major world markets are vigorously developing their local photovoltaic manufacturing industries and strengthening their trade barriers against Chinese products, which has formed unprecedented international competitive pressure on China's photovoltaic industry.

The high-quality development of the photovoltaic industry is of great significance for ensuring that China achieves its carbon peak and carbon-neutral goals. We must focus on the top-level strategy of the dual-carbon goal, clarify our thinking, and meet the opportunities and challenges faced by the photovoltaic industry with high morale.
